Privacy

The data is the product people are trusting us with.

Platform exports can include years of messages, locations, purchases, interests, and private relationships. DataUnpacker should earn trust by making local processing obvious and by treating sharing as opt-in.

Local first

Every live viewer reads and parses your export in your browser.

No account login

DataUnpacker never asks for your Discord, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter / X, Reddit, Snapchat, Amazon, ChatGPT, Claude, or Google password. You request your export from the platform yourself and bring the file.

Redaction matters

Names, messages, purchases, locations, and private links should be easy to hide before screenshots or exports.

What we do collect

Alongside local parsing, these data flows help us run and improve the viewers. Remote processing can include files from your export.

Google Analytics

Page views and a few events, like an upload starting or a dashboard loading, tagged only with the platform name and rough buckets such as file type. Google also sees standard visit details like your browser, device and rough location. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept the cookie banner.

Error reports

When something breaks, your browser sends us the error, which step it happened at, file counts and sizes, and your browser and device type. We drop your IP address and scrub anything that looks personal. Error reports use no cookies.

Remote processing

Some viewers also send selected export files to our processing server for debugging. These packages can include data files. They are stored on the server for no more than 2 hours as automated scans of filetypes/formats and fields are performed. No personal information is retained. What is sent varies by platform and device; parsing still runs in your browser. This is an opt-in feature, and you can disable it in the cookie banner.
