Instagram Data Viewer
Open the export from Meta's Download your information and see what it holds: your conversations, followers and following, likes and comments, saved posts, ads, logins and settings, plus a recap of your year.
Parsing runs in your browser. Privacy mode masks names before screen sharing.
HTML and JSON exports both work, and so do both together.
Multi-part exports work when every ZIP is selected together.
Getting the export
- Open Instagram's Accounts Center, then Your information and permissions, then Download your information
- Choose your Instagram account, All available information, and All time
- HTML (the form's default) and JSON both work here. Pick either one
- Download every ZIP part Meta sends for the request and drop them here together
Instagram export reader
HTML or JSON, one ZIP, several parts, or the extracted folder
Multi-part exports
- Meta splits large exports into several ZIP files. Select every part together in one upload.
- A missing part means missing sections, with no error shown. The coverage list shows what was found.
Instagram export map
Waiting for an Instagram export. This reader looks for messages, followers and following, likes, comments, saved posts, your content, ads, logins and settings.
Only the export's data files are read. Photos and videos are counted, never opened, so even a large export loads quickly.
What you get
What the Instagram viewer shows
Messages
Every conversation, with search across all of them filtered by who sent it and when, who you talk to most, shares and reactions, and when you message by month, hour and weekday.
Followers and following
Who doesn't follow you back, who you don't follow back, mutuals, follow requests, close friends, blocks and unfollows, plus your follow eras year by year and the accounts you engage with but don't follow.
Activity
Likes, comments, story interactions, searches, links you opened in Instagram and your Threads activity.
Your content and saved
Your posts, stories and reels with their past insights, and your saved posts and collections.
Ads, logins and settings
Advertisers using your information, ad topics, activity from other apps, logins and devices, privacy changes and notification settings.
Your recap
A year, or all time, as story cards: who you talked to most, what you shared, your busiest month and longest streak. Save any card as an image, with names hidden by default.
What your export holds
Which sections came through, what may be missing and why, including a warning when the export covers only part of your account's history.
FAQ
Instagram export questions
Should I download HTML or JSON?
Either works. HTML is the default in Meta's form and is read the same way. JSON keeps exact seconds on times, which HTML rounds to the minute.
Why is my export in several ZIP files?
Meta splits large exports into parts. Select every ZIP from the same request together, or extract them into one folder and choose that folder.
Some sections are empty. Is something wrong?
Meta leaves out categories you have no data in, and a request for a shorter date range or only some information leaves out the rest. The coverage list shows what the export contained.
Does it show my photos and videos?
Yes, photos, videos and voice notes from your messages and posts load from your own files as you scroll, without being copied or unpacked. Phone photos saved as .heic only display in Safari; other browsers offer them as a download.
It says someone doesn't follow me back, but they do. Why?
The lists are a snapshot from the day Meta built the export, and an export with a shorter date range or only some information lists fewer followers. When Meta's own insights count clearly more followers than the list holds, the Connections tab says so. Requesting All information and All time gives the fullest list.
Why do messages show names instead of usernames, and no profile pictures?
Meta's message files only hold each person's display name, with no username and no profile picture, so each person gets their own colour and initials instead.
My export only covers a few months. What happened?
Meta's form lets you pick a date range, and anything other than All time cuts messages, likes and lists down to that range. The coverage card warns when an export looks date-limited. Request a new one with All time to see everything.
