- Confirm the export from the email OpenAI sends you
- Wait for the follow-up email with a download link (single-use, expires)
- Download the ZIP and drop it here, or extract it first

ChatGPT export questions
What's inside the ChatGPT export ZIP?
Your conversations, split across numbered files like conversations-000.json, along with feedback, shared links, account info and your uploaded attachment files. The viewer reads only the JSON, so a very large ZIP still opens quickly.
Does it show regenerated or edited responses?
It shows the thread that was left on screen at the end of each conversation, not every abandoned branch from regenerating or editing a message.
Are my attachments displayed?
Attachments appear as chips with their file name, type and size. The contents of the attached files aren't displayed.
How big an export can it handle?
It was tested against a real export with more than 1,700 conversations and around 23,000 messages, and parsing runs in a background worker so the page stays responsive.
What isn't shown yet?
Custom GPT details, your uploaded file library, and Apps or Sites builder projects. The rest of the export is covered.
How do I get a ChatGPT data export?
In ChatGPT, go to Settings, then Data controls, then Export data. OpenAI emails you a link to confirm, then another with the download.
